Education

University of Newcastle, Australia

Bachelor of Computer Science November 2020

Some of my favourite courses included Deep Neural Evolution, Machine Learning, and Cryptography.

Saint Francis Xavier's College

Higher School Certificate (HSC) Class of 2014

During my HSC my strength areas were primarily STEM subjects such as mathematics and physics, however I focused on expanding these by also studying extension I and extension II English. I found this to greatly benefit my communicaiton skills, something that is often missing from individuals in the technology sector.

iSeeVC

Webcam AI July 2019 - November 2019

While working for the video conferencing service, iSeeVC, during my work integrated learning project at the University of Newcastle, I researched and made some progress on developing real-time background removal software that could operate without the use of a green screen. To do this I used Tensorflow's open source model DeepLab-v3+ to remove the background from each frame of the user's webcam. I sought to then feed the resulting video into the iSeeVC's Unity powered virtual environment in real-time. It was great research working with some of the most cutting edge software from Google's leading deep learning engineers. I benefited from this exposure to new technologies by acquiring an increased awareness of machine learning models and techniques in the Tensorflow libraries. I look forward to working on more ambitious machine learning and data centric projects such as this one in the future.

Hobbies

Wondering what I do outside of work? A career in technology doesn't just allow me to pursue what I love within an intellectual sphere. It also allows me to live my ideal lifestyle by combining a perfect balance of travel and work, with the freedom to seamlessly combine them so that hobby becomes work and work becomes hobby.

”This is the real secret of life — to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” - Alan Wilson Watts

Running

I enjoy medium to long distance running both for leisure and as a competitive sport. Starting my morning with a run is a great way to invigorate the body and mind to get the juices flowing for a productive day. I compete in the 5km local Parkrun every week and I also compete in the City2Surf once a year in Sydney. Running keeps my mind sharp, focused and disciplined and has become one of my most enjoyable (and addictive) habits.
